I had a CTS rental from Avis this week. No, it wasn't a CTS V, but it was pretty well appointed specimen with the Nav system, heads up display, and adaptive cruise control.

I am addicted to cruise control in my own cars. I use it for the shortest of trips on the freeway. I learned how to use the Adaptive Cruise Control in the CTS in a 2 hour drive on Wednesday morning, so I really put it through the paces on the return trip on Friday night.

"Using forward-looking radar-based technology, available Adaptive Cruise Control automatically brakes and accelerates to maintain the driver-selected following gap from the vehicle ahead, even in stop-and-go traffic."

It solves the greatest weakness of Cruise Control - being hindered by slower traffic. It lets you set up your preferred gap between vehicles in front of you.

The heads up display was nice as well. Your speed displayed with the local speed limit was a nice feature. The flexibility and control over what is displayed on the HUD as well as the dash was pretty impressive. I did see a 70 MPH speed limit for a short stretch where the HUD listed it as 75 MPH. But it appeared to be accurate at least 95% of the time.

I'm not going to run out to buy one today, but I look forward to wider spread availability of the technology.
